The situation for LGBT people and their rights is very different around the world. If in some European countries same-sex partners can marry and sexual orientation discrimination is prohibited by law, in some countries throughout the world LGBT people are subjected to discrimination and in the worst case - death penalty.

More LGBT Groups Gain Consultative Status with UN
The decision by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) granting consultative status to two groups that work on sexual orientation and gender identity is a victory in the ongoing struggle for inclusion at the UN, a coalition of six human rights organizations said on 23 July 2008.

ILGA-Europe gets consultative status with United Nations!
On 11 December 2006, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations approved ILGA-Europe’s application for consultative status.
